FAYETTEVILLE, North Carolina – The Livingstone Women's Basketball team defeated the number one ranked Fayetteville State University, 56-48.
The Blue Bears improve to (6-11,2-6), and The Broncos drop to (10-6,6-2).
Jamiah Lane led the Blue Bears with 12 points shooting 4-9. Alyssa Boyce followed with 11 points shooting 3-7.
The Broncos Rasheka Simmons and Imani Elliot both led with 10 points.
Livingstone shot 36.4% from the field (20-55) and 59.1% from the free-throw line (13-22).
The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, January 21 when they travel to Johnson C. Smith University. The first tip is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
Following two made free throws by Imani Elliot, the Broncos took a six-point lead with 1:37 left in the first quarter, 16-10.
Another foul by the Blue Bears gave the Broncos another trip to the free throw line. Two good free throws by Ashara Hayes added to the Broncos lead, 18-12. Jardyn Alexander got the last basket to end the quarter with a layup to cut the Broncos lead to four, 18-14.
The Blue Bears took the lead early in the second quarter with a layup by Sha'Terra Ferrell, 19-18. The Blue Bears extended their lead at the five-minute mark to six with a three-pointer by Alyssa Boyce, 25-19.
A last minute layup by Amina Miles gave the Broncos a one-point lead at halftime, 27-28.
The Blue Bears regained the lead to start the thrid quarter, and the Broncos never had a lead in the third quarter.
The Blue Bears took an eight-point lead at the two-minute mark in the fourth quarter, 54-46.
The Blue Bears had 15 points off the Broncos 19 turnovers. The Broncos had 30 bench points versus the The Blue Bears' 21.
Livingstone outrebounded Fayetteville 46-37.
