RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Livingstone men's basketball team dropped to Shaw University in overtime in C.C Spaulding Gymnasium, 97-90.
The Blue Bears drop to (7-7, 3-2) in the season, while Shaw University improves to (9-7, 3-2).
Livingstone was led by Khyree Temple and Teon Tiller with 19 points each. Detionne Leach finished with 14 points.
Shaw University was paced by Justus Baldwin with 19 points. Jeremiah Pope followed with 18 points. Shayne Siago and Amir Waddell finished with 17 points each. Jamari Roberts had 13 points.
Shaw jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The Blue Bears tied it up at the 11-minute mark with a layup by Levar Allen, 18-18. Jemez Herd gave the Blue Bears the lead with a jumper in the paint, 20-18. The Blue Bears and Bears went on a run trading leads. A jumper by Jeremiah Pope put the Bears up by at the three-minute mark, 37-32. Khyree Temple layup it up at the end of the half to cut the Bears lead to three, 41-38.
De'Marr McCrae tied it up at the beginning of the second half with a three-pointer from th top of the key, 43-43. The Blue Bears took a seven-point lead at the 13-minute mark with one made free throw out of two by Paul Tako, 59-52. Shaw tied it up with 3:15 left in the half, 76-76.
A jumper by Khyree Temple quickly gave the Blue Bears back the lead. Two back to back three pointers by the Bears put them up by four with 1:58 remaining in regulation, 82-78. The Blue Bear Teon Tiller tied it up with a layup with :17 left in the second half, sending the game into overtime. The Blue Bears fell behind quick in overtime and couldn't recover.
Livingstone would end the game shooting 47.8% (33-of-69). Shaw would make 32-of-63 overall for 50.8 percent.
The Bears shot 65.8% from the free-throw line (25 out of 38). The Blue -Bears went 66.7% from the free-throw line 20-of-30.
Shaw outrebounded Livingstone, 46-33.
The Blue Bears will host Claflin University Saturday, January 14. The first tip is set for 4:00 p.m. Saturday's game is a Blackout in memory of number 10 Eric Henderson.
