Women's Basketball Falls In a Hard Fought Battle to Shaw University

RALEIGH, North Carolina– The Blue Bears led the Bears the majority of Wednesday night's match-up in C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. 

The Livingstone Women's Basketball team dropped to Shaw University, 63-58. 

The Blue Bears drop to (4-11,0-6) and The Bears improve to (9-8,2-3). 

Jamiah Lane led the Blue Bears with 14 points and seven rebounds. Alyssa Boyce followed with 10 points shooting 4-9. 

The Bears Makenzie Pollard led with 18 points and seven rebounds. Randria Anderson followed with 15 points. Brittiney Seymour finished with a double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds.  

Livingstone shot 31.3% from the field (20-64) and 68.4% from the free-throw line (13-19).

The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, January 14 when they host Claflin University. The first tip is set for 2:00 p.m. ET. Saturday's game will be a Blackout in memory of Eric Henderson.

Alyssa Boyce hit a three in the corner putting the Blue Bears up to start the game. Ny'Asia Green popped a three in the same corner to give the Blue Bears a four-point lead with :31 left in the quarter, 13-9. Brittiney Seymour completed two free throws cutting the Blue Bears' lead to two at the end of the first quarter, 13-11. 

A layup by Brittiney Seymour would tie it up to begin the second quarter. The Blue Bears and the Bears kept it close the entire quarter. The Blue Bears started to pull away at the end of the quarter. Two good free throws by Thalia Carter put the Blue Bears on top by six at halftime, 33-27.

The Bears got within one at the eight-minute mark in the third quarter with a layup by Makenzie Pollard, 33-32. A three-pointer by Samiyah Briggs put the Blue Bears back up by five with 3:05 left in the quarter, 43-38. Sha'Terra Ferrell kept the Blue Bears lead at the end of the quarter with two good free throws after being fouled by Madjiguene Pene, 46-42.

Sha'Terra Ferrell continued to add to the Blue Bears' lead at the start of the fourth quarter with a layup, 49-42. The Bears Tanayja London tied it up a the five-minute mark with a layup, 53-53. The Bears took a four-point lead with 4:49 left after two good free throws by Randria Anderson, 57-53. The Blue Bears Jamiah Lane tied it up at the three-minute mark with a layup, 57-57. Alexis Lake gave the Blue Bears their final point with one made free throw out of two with 2:53 remaining, 58-57. 

The Bears had 21 points off of the Blue Bears' 15 turnovers. The Blue Bears had 22 bench points versus the Bears' 17.

Shaw had 34 points in the paint versus Livingstone's 26.
