SALISBURY – The Livingstone Women's Basketball dropped in overtime to Virginia Union University Monday evening in the New Trent Gym, 75-71.
The Blue Bears drop to (4-8,0-3) and The Panthers improve to (7-2,2-0).
Andresia Alexander led the Blue Bears with 17 points. Followed by Thalia Carter with 12 points. Alexis Lake finished with a season-high of 15 rebounds.
The Panthers Jhakia Gist led with 16 points. Ny Langley finished with 13 points. Followed by Brittini Martin with 11 points.
Livingstone shot 34.2% from the field (27-79) and 60.0% from the free-throw line.
The Blue Bears return to action after the holiday break Thursday, January 5 when they travel to Elizabeth City University. The first tip is set for 5:30 p.m. ET.
The Panthers took an early 9-2 lead over the Blue Bears. A jumper by Thalia Carter gave the Blue Bears the lead with 1:27 left in the first quarter. The Blue Bears held the lead to end the first quarter, 14-11.
The Blue Bears got down by six late in the second quarter, 27-21. Alyssa Boyce hit a jumper at the end of the second quarter to put the Blue Bears on top going into halftime, 28-27.
Livingstone had 17 second chance points. The Panther outrebounded the Blue Bears by one, 51-50.
Livingstone outworked Virginia Union in the paint, 36-26.
Andresia Alexander started the third quarter by fouling Chris Alston sending her to the line. Alston made one of two, to tie it up, 28-28. The Blue Bears regained the lead with a three by Thalia Carter, 31-28. The Blue Bears took a ten-point lead with 1:50 left in the third quarter, 51-41. Briana Chambers hit the last shot of the quarter adding to the Blue Bears' lead, 55-48.
Virginia Union took the lead at the four-minute mark in the fourth quarter, 59-57. A quick jumper by Andresia Alexander tied it up, 59-59. Jardyn Alexander gave the Blue Bears back the lead with a jumper right outside the paint, 61-59. The Panthers tied it up with :22 left in the fourth quarter, sending the game into overtime, 65-65.
The Blue Bears trailed the entire overtime and only got within two of the panthers.
