SALISBURY – The Livingstone Women's Basketball dropped their first home game of the season to Bowie State University Thursday evening in the New Trent Gym, 66-60.
The Blue Bears drop to 4-6, and The Bulldogs improve to 5-4.
Thalia Carter led the Blue Bears with 14 points. Followed by Sha'Terra Ferrell with 11 points. Jamiah Lane finished with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The Bulldogs Seanice Lyons and Anii Harris led with 14 points. Robyn Howard finished with 13.
Livingstone shot 38.9% from the field (21-54) and 65.2% from the free-throw line.
The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, December 17 when they host LincolnUniversity for Community Day. The first tip is set for 2:00 p.m. ET.
The Blue Bears went on a 6-0 run to start the first quarter. The Blue Bears gave the Bulldogs their first five points for free with a foul by Jamiah Lane, Alexis Lake, and Ny'Asia Green.
A Foul by Alyssa Boyce would send Anii Harris to the line for two. Harris gave the Bulldogs the lead to end the first quarter, 16-14.
Alyssa Boyce gave the Blue Bears an eight-point lead going one for two from the free throw line, 26-18. The Bulldogs tied it up with 1:48 left in the second quarter, 27-27. A three by Thalia Carter and a free throw by Alyssa Boyce would the Blue Bears up by four at halftime, 31-27.
Livingstone had 30 bench points opposed to the Bulldogs' 13. The Blue Bears were outrebounded 39-34.
The Bue Bears scored 26 points off of the Bulldogs' 24 turnovers. Livingstone outworked Bowie State in the paint with 30 points versus the 22 for the Bulldogs.
The Blue Bears and the Bulldogs traded leads for the first three minutes of the third quarter. With 3:05 left in the third quarter Anii Harris gave the Bulldogs a one-point lead, 41-40. Sha'Terra Ferrell got the last shot of the third quarter, but the Bulldogs still held a 46-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The fourth quarter belonged to the Bulldogs as the Blue Bears never regained a lead.
