ANDERSON, South Carolina – Anderson University jumped out to a 28-17 lead in Saturday afternoon's game in Abney Athletic Center. Livingstone College overcame the deficit and defeated Anderson University, 104-103.
The Blue Bears improved to 4-4 in the season, while Anderson University drops to 2-8.
Livingstone was led by Teon Tiller with a season-high of 27 points. Followed by Detionne Leach with 19 points and six rebounds. De'Marr McCrae finished with 16 points.
Anderson University had three finish with 20 plus points. Greco Jackson led with 27 points. Garrett Denbow followed right behind Jackson with 26 points. Luke Denbow had 23 points. Myles Jenkins finished with 16 points and eight rebounds.
The Trojans took a 13-point lead at the 10-minute mark. The Blue Bears got within seven with two good free throws by Jemez Herd, 30-23.
With 4:22 left in the first half, De'Marr McCrae hit a three-pointer to cut the Trojans' lead to five. Teon Tiller had a fast break and completed a layup to cut the Trojans' lead by one, 42-41. Another three-pointer by McCrae gave the Blue Bears the lead with 1:53 left in the first quarter, 46-45. The Trojans got the last five points of the first half to put them up by four a the half, 50-46.
Coming out of halftime the Blue Bears tied it up at the 16-minute mark, 61-61. The Blue Bears and the Trojans would continue to trade leads.
Levar Allen tied it up at 93-93 with a three-pointer. With :04 left in the second half De'Marr McCrae fouled Greco Jackson. Jackson made 1/2 from the line only putting the Blue Bears down by two, 103-101.
Pharoah Lassiter had a fast break and put up a three to give the Blue Bears the win.
Livingstone would end the game shooting 48.5% (32-of-66). Anderson would make 36-of-68 overall for 51.5 percent. The Trojans shot 77.3% from the free-throw line (17 out of 22). The Blue Bears went 83.3% from the free-throw line 30-of-36.
Anderson University outrebounded Livingstone, 37-34.
The Blue Bears will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina to take on Converse University, on December 12. The first tip is set for 5:00 p.m.
