Women's Basketball Gives UVA-Wise Their First Loss of The Season In Second Home Win of The Season

SALISBURY – The Livingstone Women's Basketball served the UVA-Wise Cavaliers their first loss of the season Tuesday evening in William Trent Gymnasium, 66-54. 

The Blue Bears improve to 2-2, and The Cavaliers fall to 4-1.

Andresia Alexander, Jamiah Lane, and Sha'Terra Ferrell led Livingstone with 13 points. Lane also led in rebounds eight, and two blocks. Followed by Alyssa Boyce with 11 points. 

The Cavaliers' Kaitlin Burger finished with 17 points and six rebounds.

Livingstone shot 38.0% from the field (27-71) and 50.0% from the free-throw line.   

The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, November 26 when they tavel to Mount Olive at 2:00 p.m. ET.  

Livingstone jumped out to a 11-2 lead against UVA-Wise after Jamiah Lane hit a jumper in the lane. The Blue Bears took a 14 point lead with 1:35 remaining in the first quarter. The Cavaliers scored the last two of the quarter with a foul committed by Samiyah Briggs, and Nia Vanzant knocked down two from the free throw line. 

Andresia Alexander gave the Blue Bears a 16 point lead with two good free throws, after a foul by Caitlyn Ross.

Josie Hester hit a jumper to close the Blue Bears lead by 10 with 6:38 remaining. At the one-minute mark the Blue Bears would take a 18 point lead, only allowing the Cavaliers to score one point within five minutes. 

Alyssa Boyce had fast break and completed a layup to end the second quarter. The Blue Bears were up 41-23 at halftime. 

The Cavaliers came out the half scoring to cut the Blue Bears lead by 16. At the five-minute mark the Cavaliers got within nine, 41-32.

The Blue Bears quickly went on a 6-0 run to take another double digit lead over the Cavaliers. 

The Cavaliers would cut the Blue Bears lead to eight at the end the third quarter, 46-38.

The fourth quarter belonged to the Blue Bears as they held the lead throughout the remainder of the game to take the win.

Livingstone scored 23 points off of turnovers. Blue Bears allowed the Cavaliers to have 13 points off of second chance points. 

Livingstone worked the paint this evening, scoring 36 points in the paints.
