INSTITUTE, West Virginia – The Livingstone Women's Basketball team fell on day two of the Atlantic Region Classic to 2022 Division II National Champs, Glenville State College in Walker Convocation Center Saturday night, 85-56.
The Blue Bears fall to 0-2, and Glenville State improved to 2-0.
Briana Chambers led Livingstone with 13 points. Followed by Alexis Lake with 10 points and seven rebounds. Sha'Terra Ferrell recorded eight rebounds and seven points.
The Pioneers' Breanna Campbell finished with 16 points, Dream Cherry had 11 points for Glenville State followed by Tor'e Alford with 10 points.
Livingstone shot 45.5% from the field and 30% from the free-throw line.
The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, November 19 in their home opener when they host Apprentice School Newport at 2 p.m. ET.
Livingstone jumped out to a 6-0 run against Glenville State before Dream Cherry hit a three from the top of the key. The Blue Bears held the lead over the Pioneers for the majority of the quarter. Cherry hit another three to tie the game with 1:39 left in the first quarter. A three from Kamiyah Lyons would give the Pioneers the lead to end the first quarter, 20-17.
The Pioneers extended their lead to start the second quarter with a foul by Varvara Papakonstantinou, sending Aline Fevrier to the to shoot two, 22-17. Andresia Alexander gave the Blue Bears their first two of the second quarter, 27-19. Thalia Carter had a fast break and layup to cut the Pioneers' lead to six. The Pioneers extended their lead by 12 with 3:25 left in the second quarter. The Blue Bears got within seven when Varvara Papakonstantinou hit a jumper with :56 left. The Pioneers got one final shot off before the half to extend the by nine, 39-30.
The Blue Bears worked in the third quarter to cut the Pioneers' lead by two. Alyssa Boyce hit a three from the top of the key with an assist by Andresia Alexander, 47-45.
The Pioneers' defense only allowed the Blue Bears to score one more point in the third quarter, 63-46.
Briana Chambers completed two for the Blue Bears to start the fourth quarter. Ny'Aisa Green found Jardyan Alexander to keep the Blue Bears within 15 with 7:53 left, 65-50. Both teams went scoreless for about two minutes. Deja Atkinson broke the scoreless drive for the Pioneers, 68-50.
Sha'Terra Ferrell answered with two more for the Blue Bears, 68-52. Alexis Lake scored the last four points for the Blue Bears while the Pioneers got the last bucket at the :39 mark.
