Livingstone Basketball Splits With Virginia State University

Elmore ties All-Time Block Record - Lake Dominates in the Paint

SALISBURY, NC - The Livingstone College Blue Bears split a doubleheader with the Trojans from Virginia State University.  The Lady Blue Bears started the doubleheader with an impressive win over Virginia State University.
After a relatively tight game in which there were seven lead changes by each team, the game had to be settled in overtime.  In overtime, the Livingstone went 8 for 8 on free throws to lock the 65-56 win.

Virginia State University had a very strong game inside the paint, however, that didn't stop Alexis Lake from snatching 16 rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and 13 points.  The combination guard play of Andresia Alexander and Daijah Turner, resulted in a combined 30 points, 9 rebounds and five steals.  Livingstone went deep int their bench.  Coach Chiante Wester played a total of nine Lady Blue Bears and it paid off.  The bench outscored the Trojans by 15 points and by 15 rebounds.

"I am pleased to see our team overcome adversity and rise to the occasion against very tough team.  We haven't had a game since December 16th and I knew we had to be ready to play immediately against teams like Virginia State.  We had to quickly get the rust off and compete." Coach Wester stated during the post game interview.

The night cap was just as exciting.  Livingstone's Men Basketball led the majority of the hard fought game but Virginia State pull out the win.  The game came down to the last few possessions. Navar Elmore provided the needed leadership to make sure the game was close.  His four blocks now have him tied for the All-Time Shot Blocker in Livingstone College Men's Basketball history.  He added in 19 points and 6 rebounds in 30 minutes of play.  Coach James Stinson fully utilized his whole bench to get 27 points and 23 rebounds.

"Very tough loss.  There is not a lot of time to sit around sulk.  Shaw University is the next opponent and we have to prepare for them and not look back.  We will have a very good practice on Sunday and be ready for Monday." says Coach James Stinson.

Both teams will play Shaw University on 1/10/2022 at New Trent Gym.  Tip off for the women's game is 5:30 pm with the men's game following.  Please note that all fans must provide a COVID-19 Vaccination Card or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours.  Mask must be warn by all fans inside the facility.
