SALISBURY, NC - The Livingstone men's basketball team will begin the 2021-2022 season facing off against Davis & Elkins College and West Virginia State on November 12 & 13 in the CIAA/Mountain East Conference Challenge hosted by West Virginia State in Institute, WV. Livingstone will travel to Hartsville, SC to play Coker University on November 16 and will remain on the road for two more invitational tournaments starting with the JCSU Tip-Off Classic (Paine College- November 19, Bluefield State College- November 20) and followed by the Lander University Classic (Georgia Southwestern State University- December 4, Lander University- December 5).
"We are extremely blessed to be able to enter into another basketball season after our previous one was canceled due to the pandemic." said Head Men's Basketball Coach
James Stinson, " The teams first couple of tournaments will help us balance ourselves and really find out who Livingstone basketball is this season; we just want to stay healthy and be able to perform at our highest level, ultimately seeking our third CIAA Championship and beyond"
Livingstone will hit the road for a four-game stretch with three northern division match ups beginning with a trip to Bowie State (December 16), followed by Virginia Union (December 18), Lincoln University (PA.) (December 20), and Bluefield State College (January 2). Livingstone leaves from West Virginia and heads back to Salisbury to face Elizabeth City State (January 6) for the first home opener after the holiday, Virginia State (January 8), Shaw University (January 10), and Morris College (January 11) for a four-game stretch at home.
"Scheduling was a bit of a challenge this year for various reasons, however the most prominent reason was the assurance around safety protocols with COVID-19", said Head Coach
James Stinson, " yet we are thrilled we were able to get some good non-conference play and secure a few of those games at home for our fans to support us".
The Blue Bears take one more road match against southern division foe Claflin Univerisity (January 15) before heading back to New Trent Gym to play Fayetteville State (January 19) and Johnson C. Smith (January 22).
Deepening into conference play, Livingstone will meet their southern division opponents St. Augustine's, Winston-Salem State, Claflin, Fayetteville State, and Johnson C Smith throughout February for their second rounds of play at home and away. The team will end the season with Senior Day against St. Augustine's University.
The CIAA Tournament will be hosted in Baltimore, MD from February 22-26.
