Livingstone drops first conference home game 0-3 to CIAA Champion Fayetteville State

Wilson-Thomas records career and game high 19 assists

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Livingstone volleyball team fell 0-3 to CIAA Champion Fayetteville State on Monday in New Trent Gynasium. Livingstone drops to 2-3 in the season overall and 0-2 in the conference as Fayetteville State improves to 6-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Dekiya Wilson-Thomas recorded a game and career high 19 assists that aided outside hitter Victoria Onozie and right side hitter Ollyeon McMillion to record five kills a piece while also allowing middle blocker Taylor Grant to tie with two Fayetteville State leaders for eight kills on the night.

"I think we put up a good fight tonight, it was definitely some of the best volleyball we've played this season" said Head Coach Ericka Charleston, "We have to work on our serves since we lost was too many points to service errors, but once we got our nerves out of the way we became extremely competitive against a championship team. When we are consistent with the first pass, we get the first ball kill. We have to be able to execute in that area in order to be able to challenge good playing teams like Fayetteville State", said Coach E.

Wilson-Thomas also led the team in service aces kicking out three in the second set and two in the third set.

"We talked about serving in zone five and serving in the seam; looking at good teams and recognizing the weaker side since most player are right-handed was a great execute from Dekiya today" said Coach E.  "She's been setting goals every single match, we put the footage out there for the team to understand what each individual's contribution needs to be and Dekiya committed to being consistent on her goal of reaching 20 plus assists and now we will go back and review to set a new goal"

Livingstone is on the road for a ten-game stretch beginning in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the CIAA Southern Divisional Round-Up. The Blue Bears will face a host of northerm division oppenents with their first match against Virginia State on Oct 2. at 9 a.m. followed by Lincoln (PA) and Elizabeth City State at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
