SALISBURY —The Livingstone College Blue Bears took a heartbreaking loss when the team fell, 84-82 against the Winston-Salem State Rams on Senior Day, in New Trent Gymnasium.

In the first half the Blue Bears trailed by 10 and cut the lead within 39-36 at the break.

Livingstone won the rebound battle, 42-33, and shot 17-for-30 from the field in the second half, while Winston-Salem State made 28 of 56 from the field.

After a thrilling first half of play, the second half did not disappoint with a tremendous effort from both teams. A four-point play by Julius Barnes brought WSSU within 69-66 with 4:32 to play. From there, the Rams kept the Blue Bears at bay.

The Blue Bears struggled to get their scoring touch in the final five minutes of the game. After falling behind, 79-76 with less than 30 seconds left to play, a Ram player broke free and went 94 feet for the dunk and drew the foul.

With 10 seconds and counting, Smith in front of his team bench, buried a three pointer to trim the deficit to 83-82 with .5 seconds to play. After a Ram free throw, 84-82, Ray's half-court heave at the buzzer fell short.

With the loss, the Blue Bears close the regular season as a two seed in the division with a 16-11 overall record and a 9-9 record in (CIAA) play.  The team will await the announcement for bracket selections for the upcoming 2018 CIAA Men's Basketball Championship Tournament.
