WBB cruised to a 75-67 win over St. Augustine’s

SALISBURY - The Livingstone College women's basketball team withstood a hot shooting St. Augustine's team in the second half and took control in the fourth quarter on their way to a 75-67 CIAA Southern Division win at New Trent Gym on Wednesday night.

In the fourth quarter, the Lady Falcons led three times by one point in the fourth period, the last time at 57-56 on Angela Caraballo's jumper with just under six minutes left, but the Lady Blue Bears ended the stretch with a 19-10 run.

Kyala Searcy's layup with 5:08 made the score 58-57. The Blue Bears slowly got buckets from Asia Green and Kedra Bradley and a four point play from Darra Walker, making it 68-61 with 2:21 left.

The Lady Falcons cut the margin to five points again at 72-67, with 53 seconds remaining, but free throws from the Lady Blue Bears at the end sealed the win.

Livingstone shot 35 percent (24-of-69), 5-of-18 from the 3-point range, and went 22-of-34 from the line.

The Lady Falcons outscored the Lady Blue Bears 21-11 in bench points and 34-24 in points in the paint. They Lady Blue Bears was outrebounded 46-40.

Daisa Harris scored 22 points and Kyala Searcy added 20 points for the Lady Blue Bears, who shot 34.8 percent from the floor. Darra Walker scored 14 points for the Lady Blue Bears. They also scored 28 points off Lady Falcons turnovers.

Angela Caraballo scored 15 points and Shankia added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the St. Aug's.

With the win, Livingstone improves to 8-19 overall and 5-12 in the CIAA, 5-6 in the Southern Division. St. Aug's falls to 3-21 overall, 2-16 and 2-9.

The Lady Blue Bears conclude the regular season with a home contest against Winston-Salem State University at New Trent Gymnasium on Saturday, Feb. 23. Game time is 2 p.m.
