LC Three game win streak snapped by WSSU

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Winston-Salem State started strong and used a huge third quarter and snapped Livingstone College three game win by defeating the Lady Blue Bears 90-82, on Saturday afternoon, in a rowdy C.E. Gains Center, in a CIAA women's basketball action.

The visiting Lady Blue Bears opened the scoring with an Adel Allen layup just two minutes into the game.  WSSU would jump to the 12-6 lead on a Ram three pointer, however LC would go on a 14 to 7 run, to lead 20-19 by the end of the quarter.

Both teams kept the scoring close in the second quarter and went into the locker rooms as WSSU was leading 40-37 at the half.

With foul trouble lingering, for the Lady Bears WSSU was able to extend the third quarter lead to scored 28 points to LC's 17.

In the fourth, the Lady Blue Bears began to chip away WSSU lead and Allen's 3-pointer under a minute remaining that pulled Livingstone within seven points at 89-82.

Livingstone missed its last four shots down the stretch to which WSSU held on to sealed the win.

Adel Allen, who scored a career of high 26 points, led the team in scoring, while teammates Daisa Harris scored with 17 points, Kyala Searcy scored 12 and Asia Green and Darra Walker added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Livingstone shot 44 percent (31-of-70) from the floor and connected on just 6-of-22 3-pointers 27 percent.

Brionna Pate scored 27 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Rams.

The win improves WSSU to 12-8 overall, 8-3 in CIAA play and 5-1 in the Southern Division while LC drops to 6-16, 3-9 in league play and 3-3 in the Southern Division.
