LC Womens Falls to Claflin, 67-57

Orangeburg, S.C. – The Claflin University Lady Panthers defeated Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears, 67-57 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division contest on Monday night in Tullis Arena.

In the first quarter, was a slow start until the game was tied at 7-7all. The Lady Panthers put together a 9-4 run to end the quarter ahead 16-11.

Livingstone, put together a 12 -6 run to tie the game at 25-all, until the Lady Panthers went on a 9-1 run in building a 34-26 halftime lead.

After trailing 48-47 heading into the final quarter of play, the Lady Panthers took the lead for good when Claflin drilled a three-pointer with 9:14 left, putting Lady Panther up 50-48.

LC did pull to within four points at 59-55 with 1:33 remaining in the game, on a 3-pointer from guard Darra Walker. Claflin pulled away on free throws down the stretch.

Livingstone made 38 percent of its field goal attempts 21-of-55 and 21 percent of its 3-point tries 5-of-24. The Lady Blue Bears committed 21 turnovers.

Adel Allen, led the Blue Bears with 12 points.  Walker scored nine points, all in the second half. Daisa Harris led the team with 10 rebounds but had a low of 11 points.

Ashley Fields led all scorers with 19 points for Claflin, while Shakarri Mack followed with 17.

LC is now 7-19 overall, 4-12 in the conference and 4-6 in the Southern Division. With the win, Claflin evened its season overall record at 13-13 and finished its first regular season in the CIAA at 9-9

The Blue Bears return to action on Wednesday, hosting St. Augustine's at New Trent Gym 5:30 p.m.
