LC Women Falls 82-74, to JCSU

CHARLOTTE - The Livingstone College women's basketball team was unable to overcome a fair shooting effort and committed 20 turnovers and fell to Johnson C. Smith University, 82-74, in CIAA Southern Division play in Brayboy Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Blue Bears got a team-high 20 points from Daisa Harris and a 13 point, eight rebound outing from Asia Green in the loss.  Johnson C. Smith had three players score in double figures with Blaire Thomas scoring 25 and Malia Rivers capped off with 21. Teana Lewis also added 10 points for the Golden Bulls.

After trailing 19-17 after the first quarter, LC only managing a 10 for 22 effort and led 41-34 at the halftime break.  The Golden Bulls then fought back, taking the lead back on a jumper with: 48 seconds in the third quarter.  The teams then battled to a 57-57 tie before the Golden Bulls embarked on a 6-2 run to close the gap in the fourth quarter leading 63-59.

LC could not mount a serious charge, with J. C. Smith able to hold a single digit lead through much of the fourth quarter.  Johnson C. Smith was able to salt away the game at the line, hitting five free throws inside of 23 seconds to claim the 82-74 win.

Collectively, LC shot a 30 of 73 from the field (41.7%), including a 5 of 25 (20%) showing from long range.  JCSU managed a 43.5% effort (30 of 69) while forcing 20 LC turnovers.

The loss drops the Lady Blue Bears to 7-18 overall, 4-11 in CIAA play and 4-5 in the Southern Division.  Johnson C. Smith jumps to 14-12 overall, 11-5 in CIAA action and 7-3 in Divisional play.

The Lady Blue Bears hit the road for their next contest on Monday night, Feb. 18, playing at Claflin.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
