Broncos take down Lady Blue Bears, 89-71

FAYETTEVILLE - The Livingstone College women's basketball team had three players score in double figures but fell to Broncos of Fayetteville State 89-71, in CIAA Southern Division action on Wednesday night at the Felton J. Capel Arena.

Fayetteville State started quickly in the first quarter, jumping out to a 4-0 lead after a Bronco layup at the 8:29 mark.  LC quickly responded with six straight points to knot the score at 6-6 after Darra Walker got a layup to go with 7:17 left.

The Broncos would then go up 20-12 on another layup at the 3:24 mark, but LC would only score the last five points to end the first quarter. FSU led 28-17.

After exchanging baskets in the second quarter, FSU jumped out to a 45-25 lead with 3:27. Back to Back three's from Adel Allen, LC would then score six straight points to trim into the FSU 44-37 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, FSU pushed the lead to as many as 17 points, the largest for the Broncos at 59-38 following two free throws.  LC would then go on an 8-0 run to cut the FSU lead to 68-58 after Allen's layup at the end of the third.

In the fourth quarter the FSU lead would again swell to 13 points at 71-58. LC would go on another run, closing to within 75-69 at with 5:26 to play, but FSU hit four free throws and jumpers down the stretch to provide the 89-71 final.

Livingstone got 26 points from Daisa Harris and 17 from Allen as the Lady Blue Bears dropped to 7-17 overall, 4-10 in CIAA play and 4-4 in Southern Division play.

FSU improves to 16-7 overall, 11- 4 in CIAA play and 8-1 in Southern Division play.

The Lady Blue Bears will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 16, visiting Southern Divisional foe Johnson C. Smith University in a 4:00 p.m. tipoff at Brayboy Gym.
