Both Livingstone basketball teams opened their 2019-20 seasons in West Virginia last weekend.
Friday evening, November 8, the men faced Urbana University in the first game of the Earl Lloyd Classic. Â it marked the second straight visit to open the season in s classic hosted by Mountain East Conference member, West Virginia State University.
This year the Blue Bears came away with a 67-63 win over the Urbana Blue Knights riding a 20 point, 12 rebound effort by
Navar Elmore. Â

Roger Ray added 18 points and three assists while Preseason All-CIAA selection
Lydell Elmore added a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds to the winning ledger.
The women took on West Virginia State University Saturday night in the Holiday Inn Express Conference Challenge held at the Walker Convocation Center in Institute, WV. Â The Challenge featured teams from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and the Mountain East Conference (MEC) on the home court of West Virginia State.
It also marked the
first career win for Livingstone head women's basketball coach Chiante Wester as the Lady Blue Bears broke the century mark with a 106-95 win over the host Yellow Jackets.
Preseason All-CIAA pick
Daisa Harris led all players with 26 points. Â She was joined by
Darra Walker and
Adel Allen who both contributed 21 points.
Daijah Turner recorded 17 points to boost Coach Wester in her first head coaching appearance.
(Men's Game 2) West Virginia St. vs. Livingstone
West Virginia State prevailed on Saturday afternoon with a 99-93 victory over Livingstone. West Virginia State led by as much as 16 points in the contest.
Lydell Elmore picked up his second double-double of the weekend with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Â
Navar Elmore also had a double-double with 12 points and a dozen boards.
Roger Ray finished with 15 points and a game high eight assists. But it wasn't enough to overcome the home standing Yellow Jackets.
(Women's Game 2) Livingstone vs. Notre Dame CollegeÂ
Despite a 21-12 advantage in second change points, the Lady Blue Bears fall to Notre Dame College, 88-77 in their second game of the Classic. Â Four Livingstone players scored in double figures (
Darra Walker-21 pts, Adell Allen-18 pts,
Daisa Harris-17 pts & Georgia Campbell-13 pts) but poor free throw shooting (40% to 81%) denied them a victory.
