LC Women 76-55 Loss to Chowan

SALISBURY - The Livingstone College women's basketball team started slow, going just 2-of-12 to start the game and could not recover in a 76-55 CIAA loss to Chowan on Monday night in New Trent Gym.

Chowan started out the gate with a quick 5-0 lead, however the Lady Blue Bears countered with a 6-0 run with a three point basket from Adel Allen and a floater from Asia Green to tie the game. Daisa Harris went to the foul line to give LC the one point lead.  The Lady Blue Bears would close the scoring with baskets from Kyala Searcy and Harris to pull to within three (12-9) at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, was a better quarter for the Lady Blue Bears. LC trimmed the deficit to 20-21.  Livingstone would go on a 9-0 before the halftime break.  A three pointer from Darra Walker would put LC up by six, but a basket by Chowan ended the half with LC leading 33-29.

In the third, LC would get no closer than eight points, as the Chowan defense kept LC from scoring the rest of the way, eventually taking the 76-55 win.

As a team, LC shot just 37% (20-of-54) from the field and 8-of-24 (33.6%) from distance.  The Lady Blue Bear went 7-of-18 from the free throw line, for 38.6%.

Individually for LC, Adel Allen led the way with 15 points and two assists while Harris had 13 points and eight points.  Green rounded out the Lady Blue Bear scoring with 10 points and adding six rebounds.

Jada Lee led Chowan with 13 points while teammate Teylahna Green added 11 points and five rebounds.

The loss drops LC to 13-3 on the year and 0-6 in CIAA play while Chowan improves to 10-6, 6-1 in the CIAA.

The Lady Blue Bears will have a short turnaround, hosting Claflin on Saturday, Jan. 19. Tipoff from New Trent is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
