Ray's jumper lifts LC over WSSU, 84-82
WINSTON-SALEM - Roger Ray scored 15 points, including an off-balance two-pointer with 2.0 seconds remaining, to lift LC to a 84-82 win over Winston-Salem State University on Saturday.
In the second half, the Blue Bears were down as much as seven, however, LC went on a 10 to three run to cut into the Rams lead by one 67-66, with less than seven minutes in the game.
Clutch free throws by Cameron Burhannon and Ray, chip away the Rams lead to one or no more than five points.Â
After being tied at 80 all with 1:10 remaining, the Rams missed a three pointer and a lay-up to take the lead. The Blue Bears crashed the boards and a layup by Navar Elmore gave LC the two point lead.
With :13 seconds on the clock William Crandell's lay-up tied the game at 82. LC didn't call a time out as Ray slowly crossed half court, dribbled the ball to the top of the free throw area, pump faked to draw his defender in the air, and with one motion the ball twinkled the twine as LC took the lead 84-82 with 2.0 seconds on the clock.
Burhannon paced Livingstone with 17 points and six rebounds, while Lydell Elmore and Ramel Belfield each tallied 14 points. Elmore also had 14 rebounds for the game.
