Blue Bears falls to UVa-Wise, 104-82 in the Earl Lloyd Classic

Institute, WV – UVA Wise shot 52% from three-point range en route to a 104-82 win over Livingstone College in the first game of the Earl Lloyd Classic hosted by West Virginia State University on Friday afternoon.

The Blue Bears (0-1) jumped out on a 5-0 run all from Roger Ray before UVa-WISE (1-0) quickly tied the game at five all. The Blue Bears would trim the Cavaliers lead to seven points at 36-29 at the 5:38 mark but were not able to get any closer the rest of the way.  UVa-Wise steadily built the lead to as many as 29 points with 5:30 remaining and held on for the 104-82 win.

Livingstone leader with 18 points was from forward Damante McNeill.  Ray had 16 while Malik Smith chipped in 10.

Livingstone had a commanding 54 points in the paint to UVa-Wise putting up 32. Points off bench with LC scoring 37 while UVa-Wise chipped in 33.

Collectively, the Blue Bears shot 50.0% (32-of-64) from the field while UVa-Wise shot 50.7% (36-of-71) on the afternoon.

The Blue Bears will return to action tomorrow on the final day of the Earl Lloyd Classic, to take on host West Virginia State in the final game of the classic. Tip-off is schedule for 4 p.m.
