MURFREESBORO — A flurry of three 3-pointers in 51 seconds by Ramel Belfield keyed a 74-61 CIAA win by Livingstone's men's basketball team on Monday.

Livingstone was clinging to a 41-40 lead over the Chowan Hawks with 13:16 remaining when Belfield suddenly got hot at the Helms Center. His 3-point spree was part of a 15-2 run that put the Blue Bears on the road to victory. Navar Elmore had a big block during the run, while Roger Ray recognized the hot hand and got the ball to Belfield.

Livingstone (4-6, 2-2 CIAA) won the game at the 3-point line. The Blue Bears shot 10-for-23 from long range — they shot 3-pointers almost as well as they did free throws — while Chowan was a dismal 3-for-20 from 3-point distance.

Belfield had 14 points, and Cameron Burhannon had 12 for the Blue Bears. Ray scored 10 and had seven assists and no turnovers in 27 minutes. Rashard Todd had nine points and nine rebounds. Livingstone used 16 players. Fourteen scored.

Robert Grubbs and Gus Rowland scored 14 each for the Hawks (5-8, 1-4 CIAA).

Livingstone shot 43.1 percent from the floor, while Chowan shot 36.1 percent. Livingstone had a 46-37 edge on the boards.

The Blue Bears are at home on Wednesday against Bowie State.
