Livingstone falls at home to Saint Augustine’s
SALISBURY - The Livingstone College men's basketball team tied the game at 46 all, but couldn't seal the win as Saint Augustine's picked up a 75-69 win in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action on Saturday evening at New Trent Gym.
The Blue Bears (6-9 overall 4-5 CIAA), shot 39.7 percent from the floor, but was just 15-of-23 (65 percent) from the free-throw line. Saint Augustine's (10-11, 7-3) shot 55.9 percent in the second half.
Roger Ray led Livingstone with 27 points and four assists. 11 of his points were from the free throw line. Malik Smith tallied 13 points, on 6-of-13 shooting, with six rebounds and one steal, while Cameron Burhannon tallied 13 points.
Kasey Bryant, Kenneth Collins and Tyre Gathright paced Saint Augustine's with 14 points, while Quincy January recorded a double-double of 12 points and 11 boards.
Saint Augustine's led 44-37 after a layup with 15:33 left in the second half, but Livingstone used a 8-2 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 46 all after a Ramel Belfield's 3-pointer.
The Blue Bears slowly chipped away at the deficit and tied the game again at 54 on a pair of free throws by Smith with 6:26 left , but Saint Aug's was able to push the margin to 62-54 after a Collins 3-pointer with 5:28 remaining.
Livingstone tallied 26 bench points, 18 points in the paint, 24 points off turnovers and 12 second-chance points. The score was tied four times and there were zero lead changes.
