FSU Spoils LC Homecoming winning,28-26
SALISBURY - Fayetteville State scores a decisive touchdown with 1:30 remaining to spoil Livingstone College's homecoming festivities. It happened when Richard Latimer, the Broncos quarterback tossed the ball to running back Stevie Green as he then shuffles down the sideline near his team bench for a 27-yard touchdown, to give the Broncos the 28-26 win.
Fayetteville State took control all in the first quarter by going up 21-0. The Blue Bears scored on a 67-yard TD scamper from running back Marcus Baisy but the point after touchdown was no good.
Right before the half, Thaddeus Bell connected to Everett Ransom on an 18-yard touchdown pass, with 1:29 in the first half. However, another failed point after made the score 21-12.
The Blue Bears defense did not allow the Broncos to score in the second and third quarters. But the offense fed on the defense momentum. In the third quarter, Justin Ruffin scored his second touchdown of the season on a 16-yard run, cutting into the Bronco lead to 21 to 19. Ruffin, ended the day with 99 yards on 26 carries.
With 4:28 remaining in the third quarter, Ransom caught his second TD pass of the game and gave Livingstone a 26-21 lead, which awaken the Livingstone alumni to their feet.
With time running out the Blue Bears had one shot to get the ball in the end zone. Xaiver Longerbeam shuffled out the pocket to hurl the 40 yard pass toward the end zone, but the ball was knocked down as time expired.
Longerbeam went eight for 17 on the day for 83 yards.
Up Next, the Blue Bears host Johnson C. Smith for the Commemorative Classic next Saturday, as the two schools celebrate the 125th anniversary of the first black college football game. Livingstone first played Biddle College (now JCSU) in Salisbury in 1892.
