Salisbury, NC- The Livingstone College Lady Blue Bears advance to 6-0 after defeating the 4-3 Lady Indians of Catawba College (87-56), Wednesday (Dec. 3) inside of New Trent Gym.
The Lady Blue Bears shot 51.6 % (33-64) for the game, and dominated from the free throw line knocking down 20-33. The Lady Indians shot only 27.1 % (16-59) from the field, struggling offensively for the entire night.
The Lady Blue Bears came out firing and working hard defensively, managing to play the entire game without seeming fatigued whatsoever.
The largest lead of the night was in the fourth quarter by 31 points with 1:22 left in the game.
Kyra Crosby stepped up tonight for the Lady Blue Bears, leading the team with 19 points, seven rebounds, two blocks and one steal.
Crosby added "We played as a team tonight and executed very well on our shots. Our bench was very helpful tonight, contributing in such a notable way. That's the only way we can be and stay successful, if everyone does their part and contributes."
Starting the second half with an astounding 16 point lead, the girls knew they had the game in the bag.
The Lady Indians had no counter to the Lady Blue Bears team play, out-rebounding them 54-38, and holding on to the lead for the games entirety.
Cierra York and
Precious Roberts both continued to dominate the floor, both finishing with 14 points.
York contributed two blocks, four steals, seven rebounds (1-off, 6-def), and shot 5-7 from the field.
Roberts dished out four assists, three rebounds (1-off, 2-def), two steals and shot 4-9 from the floor.
Alexis Fowler finished with nine points, followed by
Labrea Walker who closed out with eight.
Head Coach
Anita Howard had nothing but great things to say about her team, continuing to lead the CIAA Conference under her leadership. "I can say we came together tonight and played as a team.
Kyra Crosby showed herself tonight, and our bench were major contributors as well. I was proud that we were able to control the tempo of the game from start to finish, and seal the win tonight."
The Lady Blue Bears are looking to continue to bring their A game when they go up against USC Aiken on Saturday (Dec. 6) in Aiken, SC. Tip-off is set for 1:30 P.M..
