Salisbury, NC- The Livingstone blue bears travel to Charlotte, NC on November 8, 2014 to play against Johnson. C. Smith University Golden Bulls in the 6
th annual commemorative classic game. Kickoff is set to start at 1:00 PM in Irwin Belk Complex.
The Golden Bulls stand at (2-7) overall and the blue bears are (5-4) overall. This game marks the finale for both teams as well as the CIAA conference finale for both schools.
The commemorative classic game dates back to December 27, 1892 when Johnson C. Smith was called Biddle Memorial Institute. The first historical black college football game was played on the front lawn in the snow of Livingstone College's grounds, against these two teams.
The two schools have played each other 178 times and this will mark the 6
th time playing in the Commemorative Classic since it sprung in 2009.
Johnson C. Smith University have won the five previous meetings between both teams since the classic began.
The blue bears will rely heavily on power player
Drew Powell who has rushed for 763 yards, passing for 2,048 yards and 25 touchdowns total.
Junior power house
Jalen Hendricks has caught 71 passes for 1072 yards, accounting for 12 touchdowns.
Austin Higgins has caught 22 passes for 259 yards and three scores.
Arthur Bowden has been a great contributor as well totaling four touchdowns on 15 catches.
The two teams go head-to-head tomorrow as head coach for Johnson C. Smith University (Steven Aycock) and head coach for Livingstone College (
Daryl Williams) put on a showcase of talent.
