Elizabeth City, NC- The Livingstone College men's basketball team dropped their first game of the season against Elizabeth City State University, in the ECSU Thanksgiving Classic, Friday (Nov. 28) inside RL Vaughan Center.
The Blue Bears drop to 2-1 overall while the Vikings improve to 2-5 overall.
Eric Dubose led the first nine points for the Blue Bears alone in the first half of the game.
The Blue Bears struggled offensively for the night, shooting 40.6 % (26-64) compared to the Vikings 54.8 % (34-62), also forcing 17 turnovers, leading to 26 points for the Vikings.
The Vikings led by as much as 16 in the first half at 49-33 with 1:13 left before the half.
The Blue Bears were down 49-34 at halftime, with Dubose leading in scoring with 11, followed by
Ty Newman who had 10.
The second half the Blue Bears were out-scored and struggled defensively, as the Vikings kept the lead the entire game.
The bench contributed 40 of the 76 points, causing the momentum to shift.
Although
Ty Newman scored a team-high 22 points, it was not enough to turn the game around. Newman contributed one assist, three steals, six rebounds and was 8-11 from the field.
Eric Dubose trailed with 17 points, two assists, one steal, and was 6-12 from the field.
Shawn Jackson was another player who hit double figures, racking up 11 points, one steal, four rebounds and was 3-3 from the free throw line.
The Blue Bears continue in the ECSU Classic Tournament, facing Washington Adventist University tomorrow Saturday (Nov.29) at 6:00 P.M.
