Charlotte, NC- The Livingstone Blue Bear volleyball team, took on the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Tuesday (Oct. 29) in Bratboy Gym, where they were defeated in a 3-2 CIAA upset.
The Blue Bears took the first two sets over the Lady Bulls, were the momentum was high and the adrenaline was rushing. The Blue Bears kept the lead the entire time in the first set, were they pulled out a (25-20) victory.
The second set was tied at one point in the game but it wasn't enough to hold back the girls, going on an 8-0 run and pulling out with an overwhelming (25-14) win.
The momentum was tested and overshadowed in the last three sets as they were defeated (20-25,20-25,11-15). The Golden Bulls showed up and showed out in the last sets as they produced a couple of run's and lead by as many as six on one set.
The Blue Bears Carrie Blunt played a tremendous 5 sets totaling that of 20 kills, 7 block assists and 2 digs.
Sophie Lepzem and Lareecia Swiney both finished with 9 kills a piece. Swiney also contributed 4 service aces, and 9 digs.
Digs were led by Iman Isom who finished off with 17, followed by Rukiya Garland who had 10 and Stevee Cotton who had 5.
LaPria Saunders always seems to be a great team player on the court as she topped off with an outstanding 34 assists, 1 kill, 1 service ace, 1 block solo and 4 blocks assisted.
The Blue Bears are now (16-11) overall and (5-9) in the CIAA conference.
The team will stay on the road to take on Paine College and Allen, in Columbia, SC (Oct.30) at 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.
