Salisbury, NC — The Livingstone Blue Bears Mirrored their last week's 1-point game differential, as they reversed from a lost to a win over the Shaw Bears, Saturday (Oct.18), in Alumni Memorial Stadium. Livingstone is now (5-2) overall and (2-2) in the conference.
Senior Day was capped off great as the Blue Bears defeated the Shaw Bears 21-20, on their last home game of the season.
Jalen Hendricks commenced the first touchdown of the game with 6:57 left in the first quarter, catching a 38-yard touchdown pass from
Drew Powell, with
Leonardo Manzo seizing in the PAT.
Shaw was not easily stunned by the first touchdown as they returned a 65-yard touchdown run by Marqui Grizzle, but the extra point by Ian Burris was no good.
Still in the first quarter, Livingstone returned another touchdown to the end zone, with a connection between
Drew Powell and
Kemuel Brown, for a 10-yard touchdown (Kick good), with 1:04 left making the score (14-6).
Shaw's Grizzle took another opportunity to score on a 4-yard run, to cut Livingstone's lead to (14-12) at halftime.
In the second half, Shaw opened up with a touchdown, with 4:26, left in the third quarter, with a 6-yard run and a 2-point conversion, to put shaw up (20-14).
The Blue Bears were not down and out just yet, as they were used to fighting all season long. Quarterback
Drew Powell, grabbed the team and put them on his shoulders as he ran for a 30-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, with 5:51, to put the Blue Bears ahead by 1 to a score of (21-20).
The touchdown by
Drew Powell sealed the win for the Blue Bears over Shaw, and Senior Day was a great celebration.
Drew Powell finished the victory with 267 passing yards, 82 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns (2 in the air, 1 on the ground).
Jalen Hendricks finished with 15 catches, 212 receiving yards and 1 touchdown.
Kenneth White and
Deangelo Foye, both contributed tremendously with 2 game changing interceptions total, to put
the Blue Bears back on the field for a chance to score.
Kenneth White also had 7 tackles, 3 for loss.
Kevin Williams had 6 tackles, 1 for loss. And
Justin Edwards had 6 tackles, 1 for loss.
Hillman Evans and Ryhon Sykes, both had a sack, to show their tough Blue Bear defense.
Henry Horne had 3 tackles, 1 for loss.
Daniel Walker had 3 tackles, and Hildon bush finished with 4.
The Blue Bears match up against the (4-0) in the conference Winston-Salem Rams, next Saturday (Oct.25) in Winston-Salem, NC. Kickoff is set for 1:30 PM.
