The Livingstone College volleyball team defeated the Shaw University Bears 3-2 (15-25, 23-25, 25-12, 25-18, 15-11) on Monday Night. The Blue Bears improve 14-11 overall and 5-8 in the CIAA.
The Blue Bears, who are currently ranked fourth in aces per set in the NCAA Division II (2.95 per game), recorded 13 service aces compared to the Bears' seven service aces.
The Blue Bears were defeated the first two sets, and it wasn't until Livingstone's third set where they managed to minimize their errors to take the match to five sets and overcome the Bears.
Lareecia Swiney's 19 kills on 42 attacks, seven aces and two blocks was a major factor in the Blue Bears overall success. Swiney's performance contributed to the Blue Bears ability to record 17 kills and only five errors in the third set. The Blue Bears ended the game with 46 kills compared to Shaw's 37.
Carrie Blunt followed with 10 kills of her own.Â
LaPria Saunders contributed to the win with a match-high 31 set-assists.
The Blue Bears will return to action on October 17, as they travel to Bluefield, West Virginia to take on Bluefield State College. The match is slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.Â
