SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Winston-Salem State Rams Friday 25-14, 25-15 and 25-21 in its final conference contest of the regular season.
Winston-Salem started the match strong, jumping out to a 6-2 lead, but the Blue Bears battled back to square the first set at 8-8. Livingstone wasn't able to maintain its momentum as the Rams went on a 7-1 run to open a 15-9 lead, one they wouldn't give up as Winston took the first set 25-14.
Livingstone fell behind early in the second set and wasn't able to completely recover. The Rams went up 11-3 to start the second set and led by as much as 10 before taking the second set 25-15.
Opposite of the second set, the Blue Bears came out strong in the third set, but struggled later. The Blue Bears led 10-6 and continued to lead at 12-9 before Winston-Salem made their run. The Rams took nine of the next 10 points to open up an 18-13 lead. The Rams extended their lead to as much as 21-14 before taking the final set 25-21.
Phylicia Egbuna led the Blue Bears with eight kills. Natalia Felix had 16 assists while Iman Isom finished with 10 digs. As a team the Blue Bears finished with 18 kills, 17 assists, six service aces, 29 digs and six total team blocks.
The Blue Bears will head to Spelman College in Atlanta, GA on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest before finishing the regular season at home on Monday against Voorhees College at 5 p.m. Monday will be senior day for the Blue Bears.
