SALISBURY, NC – The Livingstone volleyball team cruised to an easy three-set victory Monday evening, downing the Dragons of Virginia University of Lynchburg 25-14, 25-11 and 25-15.
Livingstone evened its overall record at 12-12 on the season with the victory.
In the first set, the Blue Bears jumped out to an early 6-1 lead, forcing a Dragon timeout. The break didn't help VUL as Livingstone quickly increased its lead to 12-3 and continued its dominating performance to take the first set 25-14.
Livingstone turned up the intensity even more in the second set, getting out to a 10-4 lead early and holding the Dragons to only 11 points in the set. The Blue Bears took the second set 25-11.
Lynchburg was the aggressor to start the third set as the Dragons took a 10-7 lead over the Blue Bears. Livingstone then took seven-straight points to go up 14-10 and limited the Dragons to only five more points en route to a 25-15 third-set victory and a 3-0 match victory.
Lakitta Hicks led the Blue Bears with 10 kills while Phylicia Egbuna recorded nine kills in addition to six service aces. LaPria Saunders and Natalia Felix each finished with 14 and 13 assists respectively.
The Blue Bears will host the Shaw University Bears Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. in a CIAA contest.
