Full Game Notes
SALISBURY, NC – The 2010 Livingstone College football team will kick off its season Saturday on the road at Virginia State in Petersburg, VA at 6 p.m.
First-year head coach Elvin James will lead the Blue Bears onto the field looking for their first win since October of 2008.
OFFENSE
The Blue Bears will have a lot of new faces on the offensive side of the ball. Sophomore Curtis Edens is slated to start under center for the Blue Bears with sophomore Miles Harris taking stake of the backfield. Edens and Harris will look to a young offensive line to provide protection. At wide receiver, sophomore Omar McFadden, a 2009 All-CIAA Rookie Team selection and freshman Anthony Holland will start for the Blue Bears.
DEFENSE
The defense for Livingstone sports a lot more experience. The linebacking core of Bryan Aycoth, Travis Holliday and Justin Johnson will have their hands full with the Trojan offense. Sophomore Jerrell Gaynor and freshman Brandon Nelson will patrol the corners for the Blue Bears while juniors Devonta Harmon and Shawntez Jones will work at the safety positions.
VIRGINIA STATE
The Trojans have returned two strong running backs from last season. The top two rushers, Antwain Lyde and Rahoo Walker return for Virginia State. Senior linebacker LaQuentin Milo, who was second on the team in tackles last season returns to anchor the defense.
THE SERIES
Saturday's contest will be the 28th meeting between the two schools. Virginia State has won the last eight meetings against the Blue Bears, it's longest winning streak in the series. Livingstone's last win over the Trojans came in 1998, 42-29.
THE LAST MEETING
The Trojans and the Blue Bears met last season in Salisbury on August 29, 2009. Virginia State defeated Livingstone 37-7.
