Livingstone Volleyball Earns Tournament Birth With 3-0 Victory Over Johnson C. Smith

– The Livingstone College volleyball team earned the final tournament spot in the CIAA's southern division Wednesday evening, defeating the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-13).

 

With the victory the Blue Bears are now firmly in the conference tournament as the fourth team out of the southern division.  The conference tournament will start on Friday, November 5 in Hampton, VA.

 

The Blue Bears were led by senior Lashaundra Ferguson who finished with a match-high 17 kills and a .682 hitting percentage with two solo blocks and one block assist..  Senior Shannon Allen had 15 assists and four service aces.

 

Overall the Blue Bears finished with 33 kills and a .271 hitting percentage with 18 assists, 11 service aces and six team blocks.  Johnson C. Smith finished with 18 kills and a -.057 hitting percentage with three assists, five service aces and three team blocks.

 

Livingstone will have one final contest before the tournament on Friday when it heads to Spelman College in Atlanta, GA for a 6 p.m. contest.
