Livingstone Volleyball Falls 3-0 At Winston-Salem State

Blue Bears Host Voorhees Monday at 5 p.m. for Senior Night and Dig Pink Event

, NC – The Winston-Salem State offense was too much for the Livingstone volleyball team to handle Friday as the Rams defeated the Blue Bears 3-0 in CIAA action. 

 

Senior setter Shannon Allen led the Blue Bears with seven kills and 10 assists.  Fellow senior Michelle Thompson finished with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage with zero errors.  Lashaundra Ferguson led Livingstone with five block assists.

 

In the first set the two teams were all square through the first 20 points, but the Rams were able to take seven of the next eight points to grab a 17-11 lead and held on for a 25-20 win in the first set.

 

Winston-Salem controlled the second set and the Blue Bears committed seven errors with only six kills as the Rams took the second set 25-16.

 

Livingstone fell behind early in the third set but was able to battle back throughout the set and was tied with Winston-Salem at 20-20.  The Rams, however, took five of the last six points to grab the third set 25-21 and the match 3-0.

 

The Blue Bears finished with 24 kills and a .167 hitting percentage with 21 assists, three service aces, 16 digs and nine team blocks.  The Rams finished with 45 kills and a .369 hitting percentage with 40 assists, seven service aces, 23 digs and four team blocks.

 

The Blue Bears will return home on Monday against Voorhees for a 5 p.m. match.  Monday will be senior night and will also be a Dig Pink event in support of breast cancer awareness.  Admission to the match will be free and donations will be accepted.
