RALEIGH, NC – The Livingstone volleyball team downed the Shaw Bears 3-1 (25-11, 24-26, 27-25, 25-21) Wednesday evening at Spaulding Gymnasium.
With the victory the Blue Bears improved to 11-12 overall, 7-8 in the CIAA and 3-5 in the division while Shaw fell to 3-13 overall, 3-12 in the conference and 0-8 in the southern division.
The Blue Bears are now in position to qualify for the conference tournament with a victory over Johnson C. Smith next Wednesday.
Senior Lashaundra Ferguson had a standout game for Livingstone totaling 20 kills with seven errors for a .342 hitting percentage. She also added three block assists. Shannon Allen had 22 assists while Ariel Moton recorded a career-high 12 digs.
Livingstone finished with 42 kills and a .184 hitting percentage with 33 assists, four service aces, 43 digs and five team blocks. Shaw finished with 40 kills and a .055 hitting percentage with 32 assists, two service aces, 35 digs and one team block.
The Blue Bears will continue in conference play on Friday at Winston-Salem State at 6 p.m.
