FAYETTEVILLE, NC – The Livingstone volleyball struggled offensively Monday evening against the Fayetteville State Broncos as the Blue Bears fell 3-0.
With the loss the Blue Bears fell to 9-3 overall, 5-3 in the conference and 0-2 in the Western Division. Fayetteville improved to 9-7 overall, 8-1 in the CIAA and 3-0 in the Western Division.
Livingstone fell behind early in the first game 7-3, but fought back to square the game 7-7, but the Broncos took the next seven points to go back up 14-7. The Blue Bears were unable to overcome this run by Fayetteville and the Broncos took the first game 25-16.
Fayetteville took the early lead again in game two and Livingstone again battled back. As opposed to the first game, Livingstone was able to sustain their comeback and take a 17-11 edge. The Broncos fought back from down six to square the game at 19-19. Fayetteville went up 20-19 and Livingstone tied the game at 20-20, but the Broncos took the final five points of the game to take game two 25-20.
Errors hurt the Blue Bears early in the third game as they went down 9-0 and were unable to mount any type of offensive attack to quell the Broncos. Fayetteville took the third game 25-9 and the match 3-0.
Junior Lashaundra Ferguson led the Blue Bears with five kills while team had a total of 13.
Livingstone will be back in action at home Thursday when they host Shaw at 6 p.m.
