MURFREESBORO, NC – The Livingstone College volleyball team continued to struggle Sunday against Western Conference CIAA opponents as they fell 3-0 to the Chowan University Hawks.
With the loss, the Blue Bears fell to 10-6 overall, 6-5 in the conference and 0-4 in the division. Chowan improved to 19-5 overall, 13-1 in the CIAA and 6-1 in the Western Division.
Chowan took down the Blue Bears from the service line as they Hawks totaled 18 service aces for the match. In the first game, Chowan used four-straight service aces to open up a nine-point edge midway through the game. The Hawks took the first game 25-14.
Livingstone kept the second game close, early, but Chowan's Nett McCullough stepped to the service line and served nine-straight points to take Chowan's lead to 13 at 19-6. Chowan took the second game 25-12.
In the third game the Blue Bears were unable to get anything going. Chowan went up early and never looked back. The Hawks took the third game 25-13 and the match 3-0.
For the match the Blue Bears hit .086 with 11 kills, 18 digs and 3.5 team blocks.
Livingstone will travel to Charlotte, NC Thursday to take on Johnson C. Smith for a 6 p.m. match.
