Yolanda “Coach Yo” Bronston enters her first season with the Livingstone College Women's Basketball program as Assistant Women's Basketball Coach and Head Coach of the Developmental Team. With more than 30 years of coaching experience, Coach Yo has built a reputation for developing student-athletes, revitalizing programs, and creating championship cultures at every level of the game.
Coach Yo began her coaching career in the CIAA at Norfolk State University Athletics under legendary coach James Sweat. During her tenure, she specialized in player development, coordinated film exchange, and assisted in recruiting.
She later transitioned to the high school ranks, where she transformed the girls' basketball program at St. Johns Country Day School into a respected and consistent contender. During six seasons leading the Spartans, she compiled a 93-45 overall record and captured two district championships, including the program's first district title in more than 30 years. In her inaugural season, the Spartans earned their first state playoff appearance in 25 years. Her 2022-23 team achieved historic success by winning a regional championship and advancing to the program's first Final Four appearance in 40 years.
Most recently, Coach Yo served as Head Coach at Eagle's View Academy, where she engineered one of the most successful periods in school history. In just three seasons, she rebuilt the Warriors program into a championship contender, leading the team to three consecutive Florida Christian Athletic League championships. Under her leadership, Eagle's View advanced to the 2025 FHSAA Elite Eight for the first time in program history and captured the 2026 Sunshine State Athletic Association State Championship.
Coach Yo was named Florida Athletic Coaches Association District Coach of the Year nine times and received the prestigious Florida Association of Basketball Coaches Class 2A Coach of the Year honor in 2023. During her tenure, she coached McDonald's All-American & Florida Gatorade Player of the Year, Taliah Scott.
In recognition of her accomplishments and impact on student-athletes, Coach Yo was named the 2026 Florida High School Athletic Association Female Coach of the Year.
As a player, Coach played point guard at Central Connecticut State University from 1991-95. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and Organization from CCSU in 1995 before completing her Master of Business Administration at Old Dominion University in 1999.
A native of Blacksburg, Coach Yo attended Blacksburg High School and was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2022.
