Dr. Wm. Stephen Furr is an Orthopaedic surgeon who has worked with Livingstone College for seventeen years. He is a native of Mint Hill, NC, which is located just outside of Charlotte. Dr. Furr received a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University and from there went to Duke University School of Medicine for his medical degree. He did his Orthopaedic residency at Campbell Clinic in Memphis, TN, at renowned for the Elvis Presley Trauma Center and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. After Dr. Furr’s orthopaedic training, he did a Sports Medicine Fellowship in Cincinnati, OH where he worked with the Cincinnati Bengals, Cincinnati Reds, University of Cincinnati and Miami (OH) University. Currently he is also the team orthopedic surgeon with the orthopaedist for Rowan County American Legion teams, Pfeiffer University, and Catawba College. His wife, Ann, is a veterinarian and they have two children, Christopher and Micah. Dr. Furr enjoys golf, Sudoku, and chess in his spare time.
Centralina Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine
Centralina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine was established approximately 28 years ago by Dr. William T. Mason, it formally became Centralina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine 16 years ago. Dr. Furr, owner of Centralina Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine, sub-specializes in sports medicine although he is a director of Joint Camp at Rowan Regional Medical Center where he does several total joint replacements per month. He also has privileges at NorthEast Medical Center where he on occasion does surgeries for local colleges and the Chicago White Sox. Any visiting team’s head athletic trainer competing against Livingstone College has absolute access to Dr. Furr through their head athletic trainer, Jaime Kent.
