Justin Davis is in his 18th season as the Head of the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/ Track & Field teams at Livingstone.
Coach Davis is currently in his second tenure at Livingstone College, having originally joined the athletics staff in 2005 as the jumps coach and strength & conditioning coordinator for track and field. After two seasons, he expanded his coaching experience at the middle and high school levels, working with both track and football programs. Davis returned to Livingstone in Fall 2008 to lead the track and field program, where he has since built a legacy of excellence.
Under Davis’ leadership, Livingstone’s track and field program has flourished, producing:
- 23 NCAA Division II National Qualifiers, including Quanera Hayes, a 12-time NCAA DII All-American, National Champion in the 200m, and 3-time National Champion in the 400m. Hayes also competed in two USA National Championships while at Livingstone.
- Over 160 CIAA All-Conference athletes
- More than 15 Atlantic All-Region selections
- 2 USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Athletes of the Year
- 1 CIAA Women’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year
- 20+ CIAA Indoor and Outdoor Conference Champions
- 3 USTFCCCA Academic All-Americans
- 55+ school records broken
Beyond athletic achievements, Davis has emphasized academic excellence. His teams have earned:
- 5 CIAA Highest GPA Awards
- 10 USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors (5 men’s and 5 women’s teams)
Coach Davis is a two-time Livingstone College Coach of the Year. When he resumed leadership, the women’s track and field team had been inactive in conference championships for two years. Through strategic recruiting and program development, he revitalized the team, growing its roster from fewer than 15 athletes to over 80.
Davis received a BA from Western Carolina University in 2005 in Communication/Theatre Arts. During his collegiate athletic career, Davis helped guide the Western Carolina men’s track and field team to a 2004 Southern Conference Championship and the birth of a SOCON powerhouse. Davis was 3 time All-Conference and 1-time conference champion in the long jump as well as All-Conference in the triple jump Davis. A Dean’s list student, Davis was also named as Most Valuable Player in Field Events in 2004 while also serving as Team Captain.
Justin Davis is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. A native of Salisbury, NC, he is the son of Benjamin and Suzette Davis. Davis is married to the former Lakeshia Otto and they have one son, Nolan Sean Benjamin (5)
