Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Winston Salem State

Salisbury, N.C.- The Livingstone College softball team dropped a CIAA doubleheader to Winston‑Salem State on Friday afternoon at the Jaycee Optimist Sports Complex. The Rams earned a 4–1 win in the opening game before completing the sweep with a 10–2 victory in Game Two.

Game 1 – Winston‑Salem State 4, Livingstone 1
Livingstone battled throughout the opener but was unable to generate enough offense to overcome Winston‑Salem State in a 4–1 defeat. The Blue Bears limited damage early and remained within striking distance but were held to a single run as the Rams capitalized on timely hitting and strong defensive execution. Livingstone's lone run came when Dayjah Jones doubled on a fly ball, allowing Makaylah Sutton to score.

Game 2 – Winston‑Salem State 10, Livingstone 2
In the nightcap, Winston‑Salem State jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning. Livingstone responded quickly, as Rylee Watson delivered a triple to bring in a run before later scoring on a passed ball to cut the deficit to 3–2.

The Rams answered with two runs in the second inning and added insurance runs in the third and sixth to pull away. Winston‑Salem State finished with 11 hits in the contest, highlighted by two‑hit performances from Makayla Vinson, Laniya Rouse, Koralie Morin, and Ilyana Smith.

Watson led the Blue Bears offensively, going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored, while Natayah Abdul‑Hakim collected two hits from the leadoff spot. In the circle, Emma Cardenas worked four innings, while Gabriella Munoz pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
