Salisbury, N.C.- In their first home game of the season, Livingstone College rallied to secure a 5-3 victory in the first doubleheader game. However, despite a late push in the second game, they fell short, losing 11-7 to Johnson C. Smith.
Game 1: Livingstone College 5, Johnson C. Smith 3
- Johnson C. Smith's early lead: In the first inning, JCSU jumped out to an early lead with three runs. Jayo Griffin doubled to drive in a run, followed by a single from Aniylah Lane that added another. Ali Alvarado then doubled to bring in the third run of the inning, giving JCSU a 3-0 lead.
- Livingstone responds: In the bottom of the first inning, Livingstone answered back with a run of their own. Cianna Bullock singled to bring in Dusti Abshire, making it 3-1.
- Livingstone continues to chip away: In the third inning, Lanise Pates doubled to score Emma Craig and brought the score to 3-2.
- Tie game: The game was tied at 3-3 in the fourth inning when Sianai Cisneros' pop-up to first base allowed Abshire to steal home.
- Livingstone takes the lead: In the sixth inning, Dominique Franklin hit a double to bring in Jailyn Latour and steal home for a 4-3 lead. Cianna Bullock then hit a double, allowing Sianai Cisneros to advance and bring in Abshire to score the final run, giving Livingstone the 5-3 win.
Game 2: Johnson C. Smith 11, Livingstone College 7
In the second game, Livingstone College fell short despite a late rally, losing 11-7 to Johnson C. Smith. Here's how the game played out:
- Johnson C. Smith takes the early lead:
- In the first inning, JCSU's Ali Alvarado grounded out to first base, bringing in Jayo Griffin, who stole home to make it 1-0.
- Livingstone responded immediately: In the bottom of the first, Rylee. Watson singled to shortstop, driving in Cianna Bullock and tying the game 1-1.
- JCSU struck back in the second inning, where Jasmine Jackson grounded out, driving in Jasmin Hogan, who stole home. Then, Griffin hit a bunt single, scoring another run to make it 3-1. Later in the inning, Hodges stole home, making it 4-1.
- JCSU extends the lead:
- The third inning was a big one for JCSU. Jones walked in a run, and Hodges singled to bring in another, giving JCSU a 6-1 lead. Then, Jackson popped up a sacrifice fly, and Lane stole home to push the lead to 7-1.
- Livingstone fights back:
- In the bottom of the fourth, Bullock doubled to right field, driving in Abshire and Latour, cutting the deficit to 7-3.
- In the fifth, Stokes doubled to the center field, bringing in Watson to make it 8-4.
- JCSU pulls away again:
- In the seventh inning, JCSU scored three more runs, starting with an RBI single by Alvarado, followed by a single from Lane, and then a stolen home plate by Kaia Johnson, putting the game at 11-4.
- Late rally by Livingstone:
- Â Pates stole home in the seventh to make it 11-5, and then Bradshaw singled to bring in Jones, cutting the lead to 11-6.
- Porter hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Munoz, who stole home, making it.
The Lady Blue Bears will be on the road next Tuesday, March 18, for a doubleheader against Voorhees. Game one will start at 2 PM, followed by the second game at 4 PM.
