CLEMMONS, North Carolina – The Livingstone College Softball team (0-2) dropped their season doubleheader opener to Carolina University (2-2), (9-1,8-3) Wednesday.
Game One:
The Bruins took an early 3-0 lead through the first three innings.
Jada Starr-Wilson went 1-for-3 at the dish. JLynn Wilson went 1-for-2 from the plate, Aubree Reyes finished 1-for-2 as well, and Senior Stephanie Barksdale finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate, which included a run.
Senior Stephanie Barksdale (0-1) picked up the loss after striking out four batters and allowing 14 hits and nine runs in 4.2 innings pitched.
The Bruins ran in three batters in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 6-0.
In the fifth inning, Stephaine Barksdale gave the Blue Bears their only run, off an error by the catcher.
Game Two:
Both teams traded blows to a 3-3 tie through the first six innings before the Bruins pulled away with five unanswered runs.
Madalyn Payne went 2-for-3 from the plate, including a run. JLynn Wilson went 1-for-3 from the dish, including a run.
Jada Starr-Wilson finished 1-for-4 from the plate, including a run. Khala Porter went 1-for-3 from the plate, and Aubree Reyes finished 1-for-3 from the plate.
Senior Madalyn Payne (0-1) picked up the loss after striking out five batters and allowing 13 hits and eight runs in 6.0 innings pitched.
The Blue Bears stuck first with Ashleigh Clark hit a single to center field, and ran in Jada Starr-Wilson.
Aubree Reyes singled to right field which ran in Madalyn Payne, for a 2-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
The Bruins scored their first two in the second inning to tie it up. Both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when the Bruins scored off a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Bears tied it up at the top of the sixth when Khala Porter singled to shortstop, and JLynn Wilson ran into home plate.
The Bruins then went on a hitting spree in the bottom of the sixth and took the lead.

The Blue Bears will travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina for the CIAA/SIAC Tournament. The first pitch is set for Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m.
