Women's Basketball Gets Outlasted by Winston-Salem State

SALISBURY – The Livingstone Women's Basketball team fell to Winston-Salem State University Saturday afternoon in New Trent Gym, 61-44. 

The Blue Bears drop to (8-13,3-8), and The Rams improve to (12-7,8-3). 

Andresia Alexander led the Blue Bears with 11 points.  

The Rams Amaya Tucker led with 17 points. Taniah Wilkins finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. 

Livingstone shot 28.8% from the field (17-59) and 46.2% from the free-throw line (6-13).

The Blue Bears return to action Monday, January 30, traveling to Morris College. 

The Rams went on a quick 7-0 run in the first two and a half minutes. Alyssa Boyce interrupted their run with a three from the corner, 7-3.

The Blue Bears struggled to score as the Rams went on another 6-0 run. Alyssa Boyce popped another three from the corner with 2:39 left in the first quarter, 13-6. 

The Rams took an 11-point lead with 1:25 to go. Two free throws by Bria Griffith cut the Rams' lead to seven, 17-10.

A foul by Sha'Terra Ferrell sent Alexandria Warren to the line for two. Warren made one out of two, extending the Rams' lead to eight at the end of the first quarter, 18-10. 

A layup by Briana Chambers cut the Rams' lead to one with 4:24 left in the second quarter, 22-21. The Rams extended their lead to six at the two-minute mark. Alexis Lake quickly went down to the other end and got two cutting the Rams' lead to four, 29-25.

Another foul by Sha'Terra Ferrell sent Hadiya Balser to the line for two. Balser made one out of two, extending the Rams' lead by five at halftime, 30-25.

The Blue Bears couldn't find a rhythm in the third or fourth quarter. The Blue Bears only scored seven points in the third quarter versus the Rams' 18. 

The Rams took a 20-point lead in the fourth quarter with 6:39 left, 55-35. 

The Blue Bears ended the night with 18 bench points versus the Rams' eight. 

Both teams scored 24 points in the paint. Winston-Salem State outrebounded Livingstone 43-38.
