Softball Falls to Morris in Doubleheader

SALISBURY - The Livingstone College softball team open with a doubleheader loss to Morris College, with a 17-15 decision in game one and a 15-2 setback in game two at Jaycee Optimist Park on a cool and windy Wednesday afternoon.

Game one saw the visiting Hornets scored in each inning except the fourth and sixth inning.

In game one, Livingstone scored six runs in the second inning, with the help of Lauryn Gray's left field homer that brought in three RBI's. The Lady Blue Bears led 11 to 5 at one point until Morris tacked on seven runs in the fifth inning to take the 15-12 lead.

The Hornets were able to add two runs in the top of the seventh inning. With last at bat the Lady Blue Bears came up short to score two runs in the final inning to end the game, 17-15.

LC had eight different players record a hit in game one, with Tyonna Wilkes and Breayanna Gibson each hitting a double.

Gray took the pitching loss for the Lady Blue Bears, falling to 0-4 on the season.

In game two, LC was limited to just five hits. Gray and Rebecca Brown each had a double in game in the second game.

The losses drop the Lady Blue Bears to 0-14 on the season.

Livingstone will next be in action on March 30 and 31, visiting Raleigh to taking on Shaw University on Saturday and Saint Augustine's University on Sunday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
