LC Women's Basketball Drops Puerto Rico-Bayamon

SALISBURY – The Livingstone College women's basketball team had a big fourth quarter and were never threatened again, downing the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon, 73-61 at New Trent Gym on Monday evening.

The Lady Blue Bears started to pull away from the visiting Cowgirls late in the second quarter.  After trailing 26-23 with 1:29 remaining, LC went on a 3-0 run to close the quarter after baskets from
Mia Terry putting LC up 39-35 after two.

The LC lead would swell to as many as six points (47-41) in the third quarter with 3:36 left.  The Cowgirls cut the deficit to one point on a three pointer from Annalise Vargas (50-49).

As a team, forced 24 Cowgirl turnovers and converted those to 22 points.  The Lady Blue Bears also held a decisive advantage inside with a 26-20 advantage in points in the paint.  LC managed a 43.1% shooting effort 28 of 65 and was 6-of-18 from long range, good for 35.8%. 

Individually, Daisa Harris led the way with 22 points while teammates Asia Green and Kyala Searcy chipped in each 14 and 12 respectively.  Green had a terrific performance down low, bringing in a team-best 12 rebounds.

Puerto Rico-Bayamon got 20 points each from Vargas.

The win improves LC to 2-3 on the year while PR falls to 0-3.
