LC WBB win streak is now four

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Livingstone College women's basketball win streak is at four as the Lady Blue Bears held on for a 79-74 victory against Augusta University on Wednesday night.

The Lady Blue Bears boosted ahead 18-0 at the start of the game, before Joy Belcher buried a three pointer for Augusta.

The Jaguars shot lights out in the fourth quarter while Livingstone struggled with cold shooting. Down by three with two minutes in the contest, Augusta's Belcher hit a deep ball with 48 seconds on the clock to make it 73-72. The Jags forced a turnover with 27 seconds remaining, but were called for an offensive foul and then an intentional foul on the ensuing possession to give Livingstone two free throws and the ball.

Livingstone made just five of 30 shots from the floor in the second half, after red-hot shooting in the first half game them a commanding lead. The Lady Blue Bears shot 51 percent in the first 20 minutes, sinking 18 of 35 shots.

For the game, Livingstone shot 35 percent from the field but shot a blistering 85 percent from the charity stripe. LC also won the rebound battle (49-34) and second-chance points, 19-7.

Junior guard Zena Lovette, who had a game-high 33 points, made 6-of-6 free throws in the final 21 seconds to secure the victory.

Lovette scored 19 of her points in the first half and for the game, made 10 of 16 field goal attempts and was a perfect 12-for-12 at the foul line. She also had eight rebounds.

Kyala Searcy followed Lovette with 11 points and Jade Porter added 10. Asia Green led the Blue Bears in rebounding with 10, while Nina Robinson grabbed nine boards.

Jahmia Bradley scored a team-high of 25, Belcher followed with 20 points for the Jags. 

Livingstone returns to the court on Monday, with a 5:30 tip against Claflin in Orangeburg, S.C.
