RALEIGH
, NC
– The Livingstone women's basketball team was unable to overcome a 23-4 Shaw run early in the second half as they fell 68-50 Monday evening in CIAA action.

Senior guard Kayler McBride was the only Blue Bear in double figures as she totaled 17 points and seven boards in the loss.  Freshman guard Khalia Boston was the next highest scorer for the Blue Bears with eight points.

The two Bears squads managed only six points through the first seven minutes of the first half and the Blue Bears held a 4-2 edge.  Once the first seven minutes expired, the scoring started to pick up on both sides.  Livingstone was able to get out to an 8-4 lead, but Shaw responded to get within one at 10-9.

The Blue Bears were able to get out to some small leads, but each time, Shaw responded.  Livingstone got back out to a 20-16 lead and continued to lead at 24-21 with 2:28 left.  Over the final 2:28 of the second half, Shaw went on a 7-0 run to take 28-24 halftime lead.

Livingstone came out strong to start the second half, and were able to take a 29-28 lead less than a minute into the second stanza.  Unfortunately for the Blue Bears, this sparked a 23-4 run for Shaw which opened a 18-point edge at 51-33 with 12:03 to play in the contest.

Despite the large deficit, the Blue Bears didn't quit.  They were able to cut the deficit down to 10 points with 8:04 to go after a McBride three-pointer, but that was as close as they got.  Shaw went on a 7-0 run to go up 61-44 and squashed any chance of another Livingstone comeback.

The Blue Bears shot 29 percent from the field over 40 minutes and 20.8 percent from three-point range.  Livingstone lost the battle of the boards 50-37, and committed three fewer turnovers than the Bears.

The Blue Bears fell to 8-13 overall, 4-11 in the CIAA and 2-3 in the division with the loss.  Shaw improved to 14-7 overall, 9-6 in the conference and 3-2 in the division with the victory.

The Blue Bear women will be back in action at home on Thursday evening when they host St. Augustine's College at 5:30 p.m.
