RALEIGH, NC – The Livingstone men's basketball team was unable to overcome a cold-shooting game Friday evening as they fell to the St. Augustine's College Falcons 71-51.
Sophomore forward Greg Henry led the Blue Bears with 14 points and also pulled down five rebounds. Senior forward Megail Cannon added 11 points.
The first half was real struggle for the Blue Bears as through the first 10 minutes they scored only seven total points. Livingstone was able to put up more points of the second 10 minutes of the first half, but were unable to keep St. Augustine's off the scoreboard. At the half, the Blue Bears trailed 36-20.
At the half, Jarred Stockton led the Blue Bears with five points while Megail Cannon had four points and four rebounds.
In the second half the Blue Bears were held without a field goal for the first 6:40 until Greg Henry connected on a jumper with 13:20 left in the contest. Despite being down by as much as 25 points in the second half, Livingstone was able to 11 points with 2:07 remaining, but they failed to score another point.
The Blue Bears shot a season-low 27.6 percent from the field and 19.2 percent from three-point range. St. Augustine's dominated in the paint 32-14 and the Falcon bench outscored the Blue Bear reserve players 30-15.
With the loss the Blue Bears fell to 11-14 overall, 8-11 in the CIAA and 3-6 in the division. St. Augustine's improved to 23-4 overall, 17-3 in the conference and 9-1 in the division.
The Blue Bears will finish the regular season Saturday evening when they travel to face rival Johnson C. Smith for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
